Getting rid of tonsil stones may seem like a difficult task, but it’s really not! I’ve tried just about every product and remedy there is to try; so I know how confusing and overwhelming everything can be. I’m going to save you some time, energy and money by showing you a simple 2-step routine to prevent tonsil stones that should work for just about everyone.

If you’re tired of dealing with tonsil stones, I really recommend trying this out.

How To Prevent Tonsil Stones

This Routine Has Two Goals:

  1. Keep the tonsils as clean and bacteria-free as possible
  2. Reduce tonsil stone-causing bacteria in the mouth

The best part of this routine: Most, if not ALL of your tonsil stones will be removed from the beginning. There won’t be any waiting time to see if the routine is working for you. It’s simply a very effective tonsil/mouth cleaning and tonsil stone prevention routine that should be beneficial to everyone.

The Routine:

Step 1: Flush Tonsils With a Water Flosser

This is ESSENTIAL and VERY EFFECTIVE! Gently flushing out your tonsils with a water flosser will easily remove any existing tonsil stones. The stream of water from the water flosser will irrigate the tonsils, allowing the stones to flow out. This gives immediate relief and better breath.

Continuing to use a water flosser even when you don’t have tonsil stones will help keep your tonsils clean and free of tonsil stone-causing bacteria. Doing so will further prevent tonsil stones from forming. This is very simple and I promise that it’s a game changer.

This is the water flosser I recommend:

How To Clean Your Tonsils With a Water Flosser:

Lean over the sink to avoid mess. On a gentle pressure setting, flush your tonsils with the water flosser and allow any tonsil stones to come out.

Be sure to clean all around your tonsils as there may be tonsil stones hidden within different crypts.

Using a small flashlight to make sure the water flosser is pointed in the right direction before allowing the water to flow may be helpful.

I recommend doing this step BEFORE brushing your teeth.

Step 2: Gargle With an Oxygenating Mouthwash

Gargling and rinsing with an oxygenating mouthwash will help prevent tonsil stones by fighting and inhibiting the growth of tonsil stone-causing bacteria. Oxygenating mouthwashes also neutralize bad breath odor and improve oral health overall. Oxygenating mouthwashes are a very powerful way to prevent tonsil stones when used on a daily basis, especially if used in conjunction with a water flosser.

This is the oxygenating mouthwash I recommend:

TheraBreath Oral Rinse

Here are a couple of others that I like and recommend:

TheraBreath Plus Maximum Strength Oral Rinse (Pack of 2)

TheraBreath Fresh Breath Icy Mint Oral Rinse (Pack of 2)

I use TheraBreath because they have a wide variety of oxygenating mouthwashes to choose from, but I’m sure one from another brand will work just fine!

I recommend doing this step at the very end of your regular oral hygiene routine.

That’s it!

You do NOT have to go on every day knowing you have nasty tonsil stones stuck in your mouth. Using a water flosser will easily remove AND prevent them; and the oxygenating mouthwash will fight the tonsil stone-causing bacteria! If you’re looking for immediate relief, this is the way to go.

If anything: at least try out a water flosser. I can’t emphasize enough how well it works in removing and preventing tonsil stones.

How Often Should You Do This Routine?

There’s no straightforward answer to this question. It depends on how often you personally need to do it in order to prevent your own tonsil stones from forming!

Water Flosser: Figuring out how often you need to flush out your tonsils with the water flosser will take a little bit of experimenting. If you’re currently struggling with persistent tonsil stones, I would recommend flushing out your tonsils once or twice a day. Either in the morning, at night or both. As time goes on, you may find that you only need to flush out your tonsils every few days to prevent the tonsil stones from forming.

Oxygenating Mouthwash: As far as the oxygenating mouthwash goes, I highly recommend either incorporating it into your daily oral hygiene routine, or replacing it with your regular mouthwash if you already use one.

My Personal Tonsil Stone Prevention/Oral Hygiene Routine

  1. Floss teeth with water flosser (every day, night)
  2. Flush out tonsils with water flosser (every 3-4 days, night)
  3. Clean tongue with tongue scraper (every 1-2 days, morning)
  4. Brush teeth (every day, morning + night)
  5. Gargle & rinse with an oxygenating mouthwash (every day, morning + night)

This is my maintenance routine. I do not get tonsil stones doing this.

When I first started, I flushed out my tonsils every night and sometimes in the morning as well. I began following this specific routine after about 1.5 months of flushing out my tonsils daily! I am now at a point where I can go as long as a week and some change without using my water flosser to clean out my tonsils and still avoid getting stones. However, I feel best when I use it once or twice a week.

Simple & Effective

I hope this information is of value to you. I truly believe that using a water flosser is the next best thing to getting a tonsillectomy for someone who wants to prevent tonsil stones, and the oxygenating mouthwash helps prevent them even further!

Please feel free to leave comments and/or questions. I would also love to hear if you’ve had positive results from following this method.
